In reporting, the focus is on visualising historical data to assist managers  in their decision-making.  Various tools are available. We use PowerBI connected to different data sources.

In Analytics, we use historical data to predict the future.  Clearly articulating the hypothesis to test and ensuring the sample size is statistical size is a good starting point. It is possible to predict future behaviour by  looking at the past and extrapolate it forward.
